True to the commitment we took on with the 2030 Agenda when we joined the United Nations Global Compact, for the past year we have been collaborating on various projects aimed at promoting and revitalising education. The year has been marked by the health and socioeconomic crisis, which has hindered millions of people around the world from accessing this invaluable resource.
Education is also one of the strategic lines traversing our Corporate Responsibility Policy and has been present throughout 2020 in a variety of actions aimed at “guaranteeing an inclusive, equitable and high quality education.”
In 2020, we imparted more than 80 courses and 3,000 hours of training in Spain to our professionals in various disciplines.
Through the ‘Cantera TM’ project, we supported professional internships by incorporating interns, thanks to agreements signed with more than 10 business schools, universities and training centres.
In January we committed to the Pusol educational museum project, founded in 1968 and recognised by UNESCO in 2009. The museum’s principal activity is education, training and raising awarenes for schoolchildren and the community in general, using local cultural heritage as teaching resources.
In May we collaborated in the #tomamiportatil solidarity campaign by donating 25 computers. The goal was to cover the online educational needs of students with limited resources, thus guaranteeing they could continue their training after the closure of schools and other teaching centres due to the Covid-19 crisis.
We believe in collaboration between educational entities and the company in order to promote talent and innovation. For this reason, as patrons of the Fundación Universidad Empresa de Alicante, last September we took part in the XXVI Edition of the Awards for New Business Ideas by sponsoring the “Award for New Business Opportunities Associated with Residential Tourism”.
In December we joined forces with the Red Cross for their “Your Rights at Play” campaign to help families with minors in their care that are at risk of exclusion. The objective, beyond the distribution of toys, was to promote play as an educational and pedagogical tool for transmitting values in the school and family context.
Education transforms lives: it helps eradicate poverty, contributes to better health, promotes gender equality, and can reduce inequality. In short, it builds better societies. For this reason, we at TM believe in education as a tool for change and will continue to support it.
