What is the most important thing for you when choosing your new home? So often, we think about the layout, its location, or its qualities. But there is one crucial element to consider, and although it may be essential, sometimes it is not given due importance.
Do you know what we are talking about? We are talking about the orientation of a property, which affects a home’s energy-saving properties and can even influence the decoration. For example, the lighting or arrangement of the furniture may vary according to the home’s orientation.
How do I know which orientation is best for me?
There is no “best” orientation, and the decision may depend on the climate of the area where the home is situated or the owner’s needs or personal preferences. However, we can tell you about the benefits and differences between one and the other.
Northern orientation:
This option is usually not preferred, although it certainly has its advantages. The most important thing is that north-facing homes have homogeneous lighting throughout the day. Thus, whether it be plenty or little light, the indirect exposure will always be the same, except in the mornings and summer afternoons.
If your home is in a very hot climate, this could be a winning option.
Southern orientation:
Contrary to northern orientation, this is ideal if your home is in a cold climate. On the other hand, if you are in a cold environment or enjoy the sun a lot, south-facing houses are exposed to the sun throughout the day practically all year round.
South-facing homes, as expected, are very bright and warm.
Eastern orientation:
Have an east-facing home? Then you have direct sunlight in the mornings. If you live in a hot climate, it is a good option since you get a lot of light in the first half of the day when the temperature is not usually so high and more shade in the afternoon when the temperature increases.
This is a good alternative if you like the sun, but a south-facing home can be too hot.
Western orientation:
A western orientation is usually ignored, but like the rest, it has many benefits. In this case, sun exposure is contrary to east-facing homes, where the property is exposed to sunlight from noon to dusk. Therefore, it could be a good choice if your home is in a cold climate, but not recommended if it is situated in hotter regions.
After analysing all the guidelines, which one do you think you like the most?
