Lecture time: 3 minutes

The Orihuela Coast has more than 15 kilometres of coastline with fine golden sandy beaches and coves, where you can enjoy the Mediterranean sea. The excellent climate and more than 325 days of sunshine a year mean that you can visit these beaches all year round and practise water sports.

Orihuela’s beaches stand out for the large number of awards they have received: Blue Flags from the European Foundation, Q Certifications for Tourist Quality and Qualitur Flags. This makes it a quality tourist destination with the highest number of distinctions per kilometre of Spanish coastline.

We present to you the must-see beaches and coves on the Orihuela Coast!

Punta Prima Beach

Punta Prima is a small, white sandy beach and one of the most popular in the area. It is more than 200 metres in length and has been awarded the Blue Flag. It has crystal-clear, calm waters that are perfect for bathing in all year round. It has a promenade that runs alongside it which is great for walking and admiring the Mediterranean coastline. It is fully accessible for people with disabilities and is a ten-minute walk from the Ocean Dream residential complex.

Flamenca Beach or Estaca Cove

Known as Flamenca Beach or Estaca Cove, it stretches over 150 metres of fine white sand. The palm trees in the background, the promenade around it and the excellent state of conservation have earned Flamenca Beach the Blue Flag award. It is also conveniently located close to bars, restaurants, walkways and a children’s play area; great for a family day out. You will find it at only 750 metres from the Flamenca Village residential complex.

La Glea Beach

Apart from being known as La Glea Beach, this beach is also called the Dehesa de Campoamor or Campoamor Beach. This fine sandy beach is one of the longest on the Orihuela Coast, at 650 metres in length. It has been awarded the Q for Tourist Quality and stands out for its children’s playgrounds and sports areas. There is also a small marina where you can practise all kinds of water sports.

Capitán Cove

This beach of white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters is divided in two by the Islet of Carmen. The Capitán Cove is bordered by a reddish rocky stone promenade, which connects to the south with Cape Roig and to the north with Bosque Cove and the other beaches along the Orihuela Coast. It has been a Blue Flag beach since 2003 and is a great cove for spending the day with family and enjoying a good swim.

La Caleta Beach

This is one of the most visited beaches on the Orihuela Coast and its famous Cape Roig Watchtower has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest. Its shallow depth and crystal-clear waters make this beach perfect for swimming at any time of the year and for water sports such as paddle boarding, surfing and snorkelling. It is also bordered by the Cape Roig Promenade, which is a great way to fall in love with the cliffs and the turquoise colours of the Mediterranean Sea.

La Zenia Beach or Bosque Cove

This beach has fine sand and crystal-clear waters, and is one of the most famous on the Orihuela Coast. Its length makes it suitable for all types of sport, whether on the sand or in the water. In addition, La Zenia Beach is surrounded by services such as bars, restaurants, bus stops, special access for people with disabilities and a playground.

Cape Roig Beach

One of the most renowned beaches in the area, it borders the La Zenia coves to the north and the Aguamarina coves to the south. This is a fine sandy beach, which offers leisure services and water sports for windsurfers. It can be accessed by stairs and ramps, as it is in a semi-urban area, and has the Cape Roig marina in front of it. It also has a promenade that runs alongside it for you to take in the marvellous views of the Mediterranean Sea.

Mil Palmeras Beach

This beach, awarded with the Q for Tourist Quality, stretches for more than a kilometre and is located at the mouth of the Cañada de Matamoros, between Orihuela and Pilar de la Horadada. Its fine sand and crystal-clear waters make it an unbeatable place for swimming and spending the day with the family. The promenade that runs along this beach is lined with palm trees that make visitors fall in love with the Mediterranean Sea views in the background. Riomar Healthy Living is a 5-minute drive from Mil Palmeras Beach and is also within walking distance of the promenade along the Seco River.

Cerrada Cove

This small beach, located in La Zenia, is well known for being perfect for surfing. It has fine sand and is protected by its cliff, which offers magnificent views of the Mediterranean Sea. It has easy access via stairs and at the top, where the cliff is, there is a bar from which to admire the views of the beach.

Aguamarina Cove

Aguamarina is home to a micro-reserve of protected flora and ends at a fossil beach that is at least 125,000 years old. This beach is joined to La Glea Beach by a rocky walkway and is divided into two areas: the 500 metre-long beach and a series of coves backed by reddish cliffs, which are very characteristic of the whole of the Orihuela Coast.
