House hunting is a vital process in choosing your perfect home in Spain. But with such a large selection of properties on sale, the options may seem overwhelming. Your Property Viewing Checklist in Spain will help make the process more manageable for you while making the most out of your property viewings in sunny Spain. Happy reading!

Where should I buy?

You’re looking for a new life of leisure and relaxation, so you’ll naturally want to buy a property with easy access to the beach, local services and leisure facilities. You should be accompanied by an agent who can speak your native language to answer your questions and who understands your personal preferences. You want easy access to the cafés, supermarkets or transport services…? Your agent should have an in depth knowledge of the local area to help you find what’s important for “you”.

Where should I stay?

Once you’ve picked out a great pair of jeans at a clothes shop, you would try it on before buying, right? Well…a house shouldn’t be any different. Ask the seller for the opportunity to “try before you buy” to ensure 100% you’ll want to live there. Ideally the seller should give you the option of renting an apartment in the complex where you may want to live. Feel what it’s like waking up to those panoramic views from the terrace while you have breakfast. Explore the local area… visit the cafés, restaurants, shops, beaches. Can you see yourself living there? Remember that you still have to freedom to view other properties where you’ll want to ask yourself the same question.

Who should I buy from?

You’re investing heavily in your new house in Spain. You should therefore expect outstanding customer service from a financially-strong seller with extensive capital reserves. How many years experience does the seller have in selling homes in Spain? How many families have bought from that company? Does the seller have a strong reputation in the local area? Can they speak your native language? Will you continue to receive an after-sales service after you’ve settled in? These are all relevant questions to ask. You’ll want peace of mind knowing that you’re buying from an expert in the industry who will be by your side, even long after the property purchase.

Am I making a good investment?

Buying a Spanish property isn’t just for enjoying the present moment; it’s also an investment for the future. You may decide not to stay there throughout the entire year and instead return back to your home country. Will your seller endeavour to rent out the property so that you continue receiving an income even when you’re not using it? If you’re buying in an area that’s high in demand and maintained by the local authority, then the property value should go up, giving you a good return on investment if you ever decide to sell it.

Now is a great time to grab a pen and start jotting down your property viewing checklist. Just remember to combine your viewings with a relaxing holiday on the sunny Mediterranean beach. You deserve it. Happy holidays!
